Our foundation bitch
Am. Can. CH. Glendrover's Gena de Brylin, TT,HC,CGC,TDI,
20 Apr 1991 - 4 July 2004
breeder: Sharon Wise
Glendrover Briards
It was the end of April 1992. A Briard breeder had telephoned Briard Resuce to inform them
that she MAY have a one year old tawny female needing a home. The breeder had one more
family to check out as a possible home and wanted to alert Briard Rescue in the event that it did
not work out.

This one year old tawny female had already had two homes during her short life. The first home
was with children who taunted her and held her in headlocks forbidding her to eat out of her food
bowl. After putting up with this ordeal for so long, the puppy snapped at the little girl. The
mother immediately phoned the breeder to tell her that she was returning this female puppy
because it is a biter. After hearing the story which led up to the snapping incident, the breeder
did not hesitate to retrieve this puppy and remove it from that home.

Upon having this female puppy back in her home, the breeder thought about a possible new home
for the little Briard bitch. The breeder's brother owned a farm and had a family. This would be
ideal. So the breeder contacted her brother with the offer of a puppy. Her brother agreed and
the little tawny female once again had a home of her own. It was working out very well. The
puppy was being taught obedience commands, both verbal and hand signals. The puppy was a
quick learner and advanced quite well. She even had the opportunity to try herding. It was the
perfect home. But. As sometimes is the case, not everything lasts forever. The brother had to sell
his farm and move, therefore cutting down on the time and the land needed to house the puppy.
Once again this tawny female was returned to her breeder. Which brings us back to the end of
April 1992.

If the breeder's last hope of a home for this tawny female did not work out, she would have
Briard Rescue place the pup in a rescue home. That is why the breeder called Briard Rescue. To
inform them that a twelve month old tawny female may be headed their way. The breeder told
the little girl's story to the resuce volunteer and gave them a brief pedigree.  The breeder also
told Rescue that she, the breeder, and June Shew, a long time Briard person, had picked this
little girl as the Pick of the Litter out of eleven  puppies. Everything was set, Briard Rescue
would take the little girl if this last home did not work out. Briard Rescue has never had a pup
or dog returned. They not only check the background of the pet to be adopted, they also check out
the adoptive family so that both dog and family have matching qualities.

Immediately after the above phone conversation, the Briard Rescue volunteer looked up the
twelve month old female's pedigree in his database. He noticed several dogs in the pedigree that
he liked very much, so he printed out a pedigree. Then, he sat down with his wife and showed her
the pedigree and told her the little girl's story. The husband and wife agreed. They wanted this
little girl as their own, so back to the phone he went.

The Briard Rescue volunteer phoned the breeder to tell her not to place the bitch with this last
family and not to surrender it to Rescue. He told this breeder that he and his wife would
purchase this twelve month old tawny female and give her the best possible home that they could.
Being shocked and surprised at this new twist, the breeder agreed. However! The breeder asked
if they could wait a few weeks before getting the puppy because as her current owner, the breeder
had entered the little girl in two dogs shows and wanted to wait until after this pup had been
shown in both of these shows. Everyone agreed and the purchase was finalized.

On May 16, 1992 this little tawny female, born on April 20, 1991, now almost thirteen months
old,  was shown in the Vacationland Dog Club dog show, in the Open Bitch class. She not only
won her class but went on to be awarded Reserve Winners Bitch. The following day, on May 17,
1992 this little girl was shown at the Lewiston Auburn Kennel Club dog show in the Open Bitch
class. She was awarded 2nd Place in her class. Then!

On May 18, 1992 this little tawny female, almost thirteen months of age, arrived at her new
home. . . . . . . . . . . her 3rd and permanent home, And she finally received what would turn out to be
her Happy Ending ! But first, she has to meet our Fozzie Bear !!
June 28, 1992: Gena was entered in her first dog show with her new owners. The Lima Kennel
Club dog show in Lima, Ohio. Gena was considered too young to be entered in the Open Bitch
class where she would be live bait for the seasoned pros, so she was entered in the American
Bred class. Gena won her class but did not win any points.

Since the spelling of 'Gena' must be a east coast thing, people in the midwest do not know how to
pronounce it, so her call name in writing will be 'Jenna' with a 'J' and two n's !

Glendrover's Gena de Brylin started her show career in Maine at almost 13 months of age. The
